An Analysis of Trump Supporters Has Identified 5 Key Traits | Psychology Today ( My comments will be contentious)
I am appalled by Biden( and have been long before he became the default President) and by the battalions of Democrats who place personal power over principle, those whose incessant and routine deceptions constitute a repulsive pandering to Progressives. They are as destructive to democracy as are the authoritarian influences from the right.
Members of the corporate media have abandoned journalistic standards to become partisan propagandists whose calculated manipulations serve to enable the one and incite the other. ( Russian collusion is a glaring example, but only one among innumerable others) Under these fatally strained circumstances “ things fall apart, the center will not hold.”
But those who share my antipathies must not yield their independence, now required more than ever, by submitting to the siren song of Trumpism. For me, the impulse is decipherable as a defensive reaction to the forces of anarchy and the looming threats of moral disintegration which imminently threaten to undermine national cohesion…for example, the proliferation of the canard that society at its core is comprised of oppressors, armed with incisors to rip the jugular veins of the oppressed. In other words the summoning of a “race war” as a replacement for “ class warfare.” It is an implacable tactic newly devised to be surreptitiously poured as “old wine into new bottles.”
We are obliged to contend with and defeat the “worst ( of these) who are full of passionate intensity.” We must stir “ the best who lack all conviction” from their apathy and we must revive the legions who are in thrall to Trump by stimulating their critical faculties.
To refrain from entering the fray against what is represented by the hollow vessel and stage managed Biden, is at the very least, criminal negligence. At its clueless worst, it represents culpability for the decline and fall of of our Republic. To fall in with Trump, indeed it is a falling and a failing, represents the relinquishing of personal autonomy to the preening blandishments of a would be Emperor. But, the Emperor has no clothes and the unexamined and unquestioning support he engenders, beneath fiercely bold expressions of independence, is a sure sign of servility, callow thinking and the surrender of individual responsibility. It is the ultimate “ passing of the buck” exposed by the fawning relinquishment of the courage rightly expected from citizen/ patriots in defense of their patrimony.
Policy wise, Trump won my allegiance to a not insignificant extent and I would like us to return to many of them. But, in the final analysis he became Sampson bringing down the columns of the temple of Dagnon on his own head, thus slaying himself, as for four years he had foiled the philistines among us. Still he has not changed, as I hoped he would. Rather he is in emboldened by his Janissaries unwavering support, readily identified by their cementing to him in unquestioning allegiance. Do not misunderstand, there are many who are for Trump, who do not fall into this category but are bound together by the perfidious forces aligned against him. I was for him when he became the scapegoat of those malignant agents who pilloried him unfairly. He became their pinata, but their real target was the nuclear family, institutions of learning, law enforcement, and democracy itself. For that reason, I will still be for Trump if he becomes the Republican nominee, though he is not among my 10 top choices. He should step aside.
May I have the temerity to assert that such a docile state of mind is inconsistent, indeed, is in opposition to the spirit of our Founders, and our historic heroes of all races, creeds and genders, that made our country good and great. The Trump rallies have become rituals of an unhealthy fealty, where repetitions of talking points are like incantations which ought to enervate the mind not stimulate it.
Worst of all is his self - perpetuating litmus test for his endorsement of Republican candidates in 2022. His gall is exceeded only by the acquiescence to it. The herd mentality on parade has CHILLING EFFECT on me. These are more than trifling concerns, they are profoundly troubling. They promise more divisiveness, not the unification for which we crave, by which we will prevail to fulfill our destiny as exemplar of human values to the world. If we are not that we are nothing.
Ironically, “ we are born to be free but everywhere we are in chains”, a shocking shackling of ourselves, contrary to and in conflict with the spirit of freedom which we extol extravagantly when we subvert it most.
> Being irreconcilably opposed to Biden and the minions his Presidency represents does not translate into a blind adherence and unwavering submission to the ascension of Donald Trump to the pinnacle of power. Each in his uniquely divisive way, sounds the death knell of America’s exceptionalism. Neither is fit for the leadership of a free people and both must be rejected so we may chose the leader our country deserves. I don’t want to vote for another default President, I want a President I cam be proud of. Neither qualifies. “ Let there be justice though the heavens fall.”
