IN MEMORY OF 9/11
Why we must continue to remember 9/11 as Patriot’s Day.
Honoring the victims keeps alive the memories of the thousands of innocent lives lost.
Recognizing heroism: The day is a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of first responders, as well as the ordinary citizens who helped others.
Reflecting on impact: The attacks had a profound and lasting impact on national security, foreign policy, and American identity. Reflecting on 9/11 buttresses our resilience and is a constant reminder that ”eternal vigilance is the price for liberty.”
Educating younger generations: For those who are too young to remember that tragic day, annual commemorations ensure that this pivotal moment in history is not forgotten.
Doing our Duty: Those of us whose minds are permanently seared by the carnage, the broken hearts, the lost lives, and loss of innocence, have a special obligation to love and honor our country all the years of our lives. We esteem those who “gave their last measure of devotion” by persistent loyalty and service to our fellow Americans, in whatever sphere of influence, large or small, where we abide. The promise we must make and keep, however daunting our omnipresent challenges is to do our duty. “Duty is the sublimest word in the English language;, we cannot do more we should never hope to do less.”
“If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate.” — Sandy Dahl, wife of Flight 93 pilot Jason Dahl.
