To be clear, I'm poaching from the WSJ editorial of January, 4, 2022 (Opinion)
“What was often thought but ne’er so well expressed.”
New Virginia Governor has recast the state’s “diversity, equity and inclusion “ office to substitute “opportunity” for “equity.” The left, including the Biden Administration, has abandoned its long-held support of equal opportunity in favor of “equity” by which it means equal outcomes. The latter is impossible to achieve given human differences, but it is used to justify destructive and polarizing policies that favor some groups over others. it is incumbent upon us to take up the cause of equality and to fiercely combat its disfigurement, as preached and practiced by the unscrupulous, under the rubric of Equity, as roguishly defined by them. ( Our Motivating Principle)
The governor issued an executive order tasking the diversity office in Virginia to focus, among other things, on economic opportunity, cooperation among religious groups, promoting ”free speech and civil discourse” on campus and ensuring that the State’s history curriculum is “honest, objective and complete.” the later takes aim at the inculcation of critical race theory in schools.
Thus is established and articulated our PARADIGM: Now is the time to coordinate a multi-level ACTION PLAN organized and implemented to follow the exemplary leadership exhibited by Governor Youngkin.
Initial suggestions include but are not limited to the following:
Contact the members of your local Boards of Education, Executives, Legislators, parents and all within reach. Provide them with these fundamentals and ask for transparency regarding the current status and the pressing need for dialogue need for corrective action and improvement. Inevitably, the status quo will be unacceptable. ( I will do so today.)
Contact your alma mater and ask about Programs extant in its Department of Diversity Equity and Inclusion and how it is operating in practice. Ask for transparency and a detailed explanation not only in the moment, but, on a regular ongoing basis. As an alumnus, each of us singly, and collectively, are entitled to know whether we can continue to support our Colleges and Universities financially and morally. We are inundated with news of the achievements of our Athletic Departments ( all to the good) but this subject is paramount and supersedes all other considerations. I will forward this to Providence College today ( Office of the President). It will serve as the continuation of a conversation Initiated by me before last summer by email and telephone. Its time for an update and a check-in to measure movement, one way or another. And to encourage, where appropriate and necessary, a recasting of the Departments at our respective institutions of higher learning in accord with the Virginia Model.
Contact the Governor and legislators for the same purpose: status, transparency, dialogue, correction, and amendment in accord with the Virginia Model.
